bruce_lee_019Bruce Lee is a man whose legacy speaks for itself. Awesomeness is always the first thing that comes to mind for anyone who hears his name. He set, and maintains, the standard for what action films could be. His best known film was Enter the Dragon, which was released six days after his death. Enter the Dragon  is a film that any self respecting film fan has to see. However, it has been decided in Hollywood that a remake needs to happen, because apparently they are just that desperate for ideas.

Their remake is called Awaken the Dragon, which would be cool if the film was a sequel or something like that (but a sequel to a Bruce Lee film without Bruce Lee would be like having barbecue without the meat). Instead the film is going to be a martial arts noir (granted, I like the interesting combination, but the simple fact that it’s a remake prevents me from liking it anymore than that) about a detective who tracks a rogue Shaolin fighter to underground fighting matches. The detective is going to be played by Japanese actor and singer Rain. If Rain doesn’t seem very familiar to you, then go watch Speed Racer and figure it out.  I’m too frustrated to remember character names right now, lol. Rain also has the lead role in the Wachowski Brothers’ upcoming movie Ninja Assassin, which looks cool, but I just don’t think that Rain has the credentials to be able to carry such a film just yet. I’m also unsure of Rain’s martial arts background, but I can guarantee it’s nowhere near close enough to take over a role originated by the Dragon himself.

I can appreciate wanting to put an interesting spin on an old story, but this is Enter the Dragon we’re talking about. I like to live by the phrase “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” but apparently Hollywood prefers “If it ain’t broke, you’re not trying hard enough.”
