I know, I know. Another post about a movie remake so soon after the last one? Trust me, for once it’s news of a remake that just might, just MIGHT be good. And all it took was a bad movie to make it happen. Anyone who has seen the Tim Burton movie Ed Wood, or heck, even seen the films of Ed Wood knows that Wood’s films were notoriously bad. He’s even been called the worst film director of all time. Some people said he was a talentless hack who ruthlessly used people to make his dreams come true, while others lauded him as a guy whose lack of budget hindered his talent, with some saying his films would have actually been good if they had a budget to back them up. Others also thought he was a good role model due to the fact that he never gave up on his dreams of being a filmmaker. Many say that his “masterpiece” is Plan 9 From Outer Space, which Wood had swindled a Baptist church to obtain the budget to make. The film has long been considered the worst film ever made. But that hasn’t stopped it from gaining a specil place in the hearts of movie lovers everywhere. And now there is a remake in development that sets out to modernize the story and play the whole thing straight faced. And after watching the trailer, I must say that I am impressed.

First of all, the film is low budget, much like Wood’s original film. But this film looks like it is pulling all the stops to introduce the film to new audiences. If this film proves successful on any level, it could bring in a lot of new Ed Wood fans. I also love how they kept (although altered to remove mistakes Wood made in the writing) the opening speech from The Amazing Criswell in. It makes the trailer actually creepy, and just might do the original film justice. I’m not expecting a mindblowingly awesome film, but at the very least this looks like a wonderful tribute to the worst film of all time.

Oh, and if you want to see the original, or even the Tim Burton Ed Wood movie, you can find them here.
