After all of the casting rumors, the villain debates, the story speculation, it all means nothing today, as Sony has scrapped plans to do a fourth installment in the popular franchise. Sure, Spider-Man 3 wasn’t nearly as good as the first two films, but I was still excited for the fourth movie. So I am a little bit disappointed. The main reason is that director Sam Raimi were not able to agree on a story or villain, and so Sam simply walked away so that the studio could move forward with a reboot of the franchise. I think Raimi made the right decision, as further debate and disagreement could have led to 4 being a disaster, whereas a reboot could breathe new life into the franchise. I’ll have more news regarding the reboot once they come in. But expect the movie summer 2012.
