Full Iron Man 3 Trailer!

Full Iron Man 3 Trailer!

Comics Movies

So this trailer is…kind of devastating. And I mean that in the best way possible. I’ve been waiting a long time to see what the vibe for Iron Man 3 would be and this is definitely Tony Stark as we’ve never seen him before: on the ropes and on the run. The only thing I’m not completely sold on for this movie is Ben Kingsley’s voice as the Mandarin. I hear that we’re actually going to get a reason as to why he’s not Asian and it better be a dang good one. All that aside, I can’t wait to see how the story plays out. With Jon Favreau out as the director and Shane Black in let’s hope that it doesn’t suffer the “part-three-director-swap-out” curse (which I assure you does exist).

Kickstart The Goon Movie!

Kickstart The Goon Movie!

Comics Movies

Every now and then we here at Cotygeek like to do our best to help out projects we think are worthy. And we can’t think of any project more worthy of helping out than getting Eric Powell’s zombie smackin’ comic book masterpiece The Goon made as a major motion picture produced by David Freaking What’s-In-The-Box Fincher. You may remember a few years ago they tried to get this movie off the ground but selling an animated flick aimed at adults to a Hollywood studio is more than just a little difficult. To have a comic book movie where it can literally be said that it wouldn’t have made it to the big screen without the fans would be absolutely phenomenon and is definitely a worthy cause. It does need to be said that the funds raised on the Kickstarter are not actually going towards the finished version of the film, but rather it is going towards funding a story reel, which is essentially the whole movie done as a series of illustrations paired with recorded voice acting in an effort to gain the completion funds for the flick. In other words you would be funding the materials they need to get the funding to do a fully CG flick (because animation is freaking expensive). So what are you waiting for? Take out your rent and bill money and donate already!

And if you haven’t ready any of The Goon comics from Dark Horse then shame on you! You can pick them up here, though so you can make up for that.

New Wonder Woman Series in the Works

New Wonder Woman Series in the Works

Comics

Why do people think Wonder Woman is such a hard character to write? She’s easily as interesting as both Batman and Superman and comes with a pretty awesome story when you actually take the time to explore it. So why is it that with such a rich mythology to play with, nobody can seem to write Wonder Woman for TV as the fully three dimensional character she is in the comics instead of a simple “girl power” icon? The last attempt to bring her to the small screen didn’t make it past an unaired pilot that had decent action but horrible writing. It was too busy trying to do the “Hey! Girls can be superheroes too!” routine and it failed horribly. However, the CW is setting up a new Wonder Woman series and shockingly enough the writer of the show is someone who’s actually written the character in the comics before!

I would’ve been very skeptical about Wonder Woman on the CW. After all, Smallville was a mixed bag at best. But Arrow has me thinking that maybe Warner Bros. is taking their comics properties a bit more seriously. At least that’s what I hope. The new series is set to be an origin, focusing on Wonder Woman’s early days. However, it seems as though we won’t have to wait ten years for Wonder Woman to wear a badly CG’d costume. This seems like we’ll get into straight up superheroics from the get-go. Hopefully they’ll find a way to make it work. It would be killer for there to be a Wonder Woman TV show that actually did her justice. This could also go a long way towards reintroducing the character to general audiences before the Justice League flick.
