Silent Hill Reboot From Kojima, Del Toro, and Norman Reedus!

Silent Hill Reboot From Kojima, Del Toro, and Norman Reedus!

Games

Let me get this straight…we got Hideo Kojima, Guillermo Del Toro, and Norman Reedus in a room together and we’re getting a Silent Hill Reboot out of it? Oh, it is so on. So at Gamescom at the Sony booth a horror demo called PT was announced. Well, it turned out to not actually be a demo, but rather a video. A video of Norman Reedus walking through a town in the middle of the night with a flashlight. The names of Kojima and Del Toro begin to show on screen before fog sets in and the title is revealed: Silent Hills.

This is seriously incredible. If they can bring Akira Yamaoka back in some capacity (especially if they can get him to do the music) it would be incredible and just the shot in the arm that this veteran franchise needs. Silent Hill has a wonderful mythology that I only see becoming more enriched with the minds of Del Toro and Kojima behind it. Silent Hill’s first movie is probably my favorite game adaptation if only because of the visual and tonal faithfulness to the original games. Here’s hoping that Del Toro’s involvement means a movie reboot since Silent Hill: Revelations wasn’t that great…at all.

PS4 Exclusive Rime Trailer!

PS4 Exclusive Rime Trailer!

We’ve seen beautiful looking games before. We’ve seen video games that have had us use the word “epic.” I honestly think this is one of the few games I would put in both categories. There are not enough games out there that make the promise of giving the gamers an actual journey to partake in. In fact, the last game I can think of to do so was the game Journey. The new PS4 exclusive Rime is a game that appears to be taking us on a journey and I can’t wait to take it.

Seriously, this game looks freaking beautiful. We don’t have any details on the gameplay or story, but from what I can tell the game seems to be taking heavy inspiration from ancient Roman design tropes. There even seems to be a scene inspired by Pompeii. I know it’s being said everywhere online…but this looks like Wind Waker on steroids. Just can’t wait to see some actual gameplay. That’s the thing that I’m really curious about, above all else.

Assassin’s Creed Rogue Trailer

Assassin’s Creed status as a yearly title is a controversial one. While there are some who love that the wait is never too long between titles there are others who feel like the series has gotten stale too quickly. Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag breathed a little bit of new life into the series, but for many it was not enough to make the series feel new again. Ubisoft is hoping to change that with Assassin’s Creed Rogue.

Rogue is putting players in the shoes of a Templar for the first time. That’s right, for the first time in the series players will be seeing what it’s like on the other side of the historical fence as Shay, a former assassin, must track down numerous targets across the globe. If I’m being honest I don’t think that Ubisoft will completely commit to the premise. I’m sure Shay will constantly question his allegiance and be brought back to the Assassin’s side before the end (and/or be killed in the process). But who knows? Maybe Ubisoft is really willing to make considerable changes to their golden franchise. It’s possible…but doubtful.
