It’s Official: Zack Snyder is Directing Superman

I recently did a post about the Superman reboot, in which I laid out a shortlist of directors who were in the running. And now, Zack Snyder has emerged as the helmer of the 2012 reboot. While Snyder was not exactly one of my favorite choices for the film, I have enjoyed his previous movies, and hope he does the character justice.

Star Wars Getting Re-Re-Re-Re-Released….or something like that

Okay, I’m a Star Wars fan. I know, I know. Throw a rock and you’ll probably hit a Star Wars fan. Well, just when I had sworn off Star Wars forever for the second time, George Lucas finds another way to drag me back in. Not only is the man re-releasing the saga (although we know the original trilogy is all that matters) on Bluray soon, but he’s also going to theatrically re-release the films in 3D, starting in 2012, ending in 2017, the 40th anniversary of the original film.

And now for a side note, kiddies. I know George Lucas did a LOT of wrong by us over the years. I mean, come on. The stiff dialogue in the prequel trilogies, the force bacteria crap, and of course the facepalm inducing Jar Jar. But I’ve always looked at it like this: the prequels are like extended reading. They don’t really matter in the face of the main trilogy. The story of Luke is more important than Whinikin (that’s his new name).

Megaman Legends 3 Greenlit!!!!!!!!!

Okay, anybody that knows me knows that I regard Megaman Legends as one of the very best games that was ever put out during the PS1/N64 era. Unfortunately, it is also one of the most underrated games from that era. There was a sequel that was pretty dang good, but the music and voice acting sucked compared to the first one. Well, after TEN years, Capcom’s Keiji Inafune confirms that a third game is finally in the works and that makes me VERY happy. The thing that doesn’t make me happy, however, is that the game is only going to be released on the new Nintendo 3DS. I was hoping for at least a Playstation Network download, but if I have to pick up the 3DS, I will.

Superman Movie News

Okay, I haven’t done a post about the Superman reboot in awhile, but if you’ve paid attention to any headlines related to the flick you’ll know that 1. Christopher Nolan and David Goyer are working on the story for the new movie, but Nolan won’t be directing it. 2. The flick’s slated to be out Christmas 2012.

Now, we’ve got you mostly caught up. There’s currently a shortlist of directors out there that includes Darren Aronofsky, Tony Scott, Duncan Jones, Matt Reeves, Zack Snyder and a couple other names that I’ve honestly never heard of.

To be honest, I’m only interested in two names on the list: Duncan Jones and Matt Reeves. Duncan Jones made Moon, which was awesome, but I don’t know if he’s suited for Superman yet. Matt Reeves did Cloverfield and Let Me In, which I think shows he’s able to work with big budgets, but his resume’s kind of dark, though. As much as I know people would love Zack Snyder behind the camera, I honestly think the stylistic elements would overtake the story, and Aronofsky, as talented as he is, has never done a project remotely like Superman, and his films are, honestly, a bit too dark.

It kind of unnerves me that they’re looking at directors who are known for doing relatively dark films. Superman is not Batman, he does not need to be darkened. Superman is meant to be an uplifting and inspiring character, not dark and brooding. I hope they just pick a director who is faithful to the character and manages to make Superman cool again.

Let Me In Preview

Vampires have kind of gone out of control the past few years. I blame it all on a certain franchise that features vampires that aren’t really vampires paired with young girls with no sense of self-reliance. But in the depressing sea of vampire movies and books there is Let Me In, or if you want to use the original book’s title, Let the Right One In. For the sake of avoiding confusion, we’ll keep calling it Let Me In. Let Me In tells the story of a boy who is frequently bullied, picked on, and all of the above. That’s before he becomes friends with a young girl who happens to be one of the undead. The cool thing about the story is that it’s not toned down, and it doesn’t emulate the previously mentioned franchise. It’s gory in all the right places, but carries a humanity that cannot be described, you just have to experience it for yourself. There was a film made in Sweden, home of the original novel, titled Let the Right One In, and it is amazing. Since the Swedish film did so well critically, that naturally means that an American producer has to swoop in and do an Americanized version because gosh darn it we red blooded Americans can’t stand subtitles or anything foreign. It scares us. (That’s called sarcasm, kids.) The American version is titled Let Me In, and it’s directed by Matthew Reeves, the guy who directed Cloverfield. So far the movie looks pretty good. But don’t take my word for it (scratch that. Take my word for it) and watch the trailer!

Dead Rising 2 Preview

If there’s one thing that people in America love, it’s killing zombies. Seriously, I don’t think there’s been one year in the past decade that didn’t have some kind of zombie related movie. I don’t know if it started with the Resident evil movies, 28 Days Later, or what, but it kind of exploded. Now there’s Dead Rising 2, and America’s favorite past time (take that baseball, with your lousy bats and home runs) is back in full swing. If you even remotely love zombies, you need to check out this game. Check out the trailer below!

The Social Network Preview!

Almost everyone on the planet uses facebook (500,000 people is everyone on the planet, right? Meh, close enough). Now there’s a movie about the founding of Facebook coming out called The Social Network, and while this movie is getting a massive amount of hype, I can’t help but wonder whether or not this is a “too soon” movie. But hey, it’s directed by David Fincher, so if the guy who directed Seven and Zodiac thinks it’s a worthy topic, then maybe there is something to it. The founder of facebook (or co-founder, whatever you want to call him) has gone on the record saying he won’t see the movie since it obviously paints him in a bad light, but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s been spotted at private screenings for it. Who knows how this will turn out, but the early reviews are definitely intriguing.

Asura’s Wrath Preview

Okay, I have absolutely no idea as to the story of this game, but it just looks freaking awesome. The fact that the footage in the trailer is gameplay shows a massive amount of confidence on Capcom’s part, and I can’t wait to learn more about it.

Heavy Rain To Become a Movie

When Quantic Dream came out with Heavy Rain earlier this year, I was blown away by the way that choices were presented to the player, along with the beautiful graphics and thoroughly engaging plot. Well, it’s been recently announced that New Line Cinema, the same folks who brought us the original Elm Street series and Se7en are working with Quantic Dream to develop a movie based on the game. While I’m not sure how they would pull off the film in terms of scripting it, I think with the right writer and director, the film could knock it out of the park. But they definitely need to keep the cast that was present in the game.

My Soul To Take Preview!
